Efficient hay and biomass drying for Karl Barth AG and modern agriculture

How modern connectivity is digitising hay and biomass drying

For five decades, Karl Barth AG has been a leader in hay and biomass drying. The company relies on networked solutions to provide its agricultural customers with maximum efficiency, flexible operation and fast response times. In collaboration with TELTONIKA Networks’ reliable industrial routers and INOVIS Live Automation AG’s technical support, a future-proof, modularly scalable drying technology is being created for modern businesses.

About Karl Barth AG

Karl Barth AG has been a leading expert in hay and biomass drying for 50 years.
As well as manufacturing high-quality radial fans and ventilation controls, the company focuses on designing and implementing drying systems for hay, wood chips, grain, seeds, herbs and more.
Secomat TS drying controls are PC-based automatic controls. They are operated via a screen and can control several drying boxes simultaneously.

Growing businesses – increasing demands

The agriculture sector is evolving: farms are expanding, automation is becoming increasingly important, and the time windows for harvesting and drying are shrinking.
In order for Karl Barth AG’s control systems – particularly the Secomat TS and HB16 eco – to continue to be operated intuitively, efficiently, and independently of location, robust, secure, and always-available connectivity is required.

This is where the collaboration between INOVIS and TELTONIKA Networks comes into play.

Why Teltonika Networks?

INOVIS supplies Karl Barth AG with genuine industrial routers, which are ideal for use in rural and agricultural settings.

  • High reliability, even in the face of temperature and humidity fluctuations.
  • Compact devices for confined switch cabinet spaces.
  • Intuitive management.
  • Stable LTE/4G connectivity, even in remote regions.
  • Modern remote management via Teltonika RMS.

In particular, the RUT200 has been shown to be the perfect connection between the drying system, home network and remote access.

Modern connectivity for greater speed and flexibility

Farms are becoming larger and more complex. To help customers continue to operate their systems optimally, and given that time is becoming an increasingly important factor, Karl Barth uses TELTONIKA Networks’ equipment. This enables customers to integrate their systems into their home networks and operate them locally on all devices.

The RUT200 is installed for customers who do not have a home network or who want to monitor their system remotely. Karl Barth sets up and manages all the necessary settings centrally. Customers simply need to connect via a VPN tunnel to view and operate their system at any time and from anywhere. They are also notified of malfunctions by email or text message, enabling rapid troubleshooting. In the event of major malfunctions or requests for programme changes, it is also possible to respond more quickly and save on long journeys.

For regions with poor mobile phone reception, Karl Barth offers an SMS control system for its HB16 éco range. Simple, short text commands can be used to control the entire system while providing customers with a complete overview of the current status. The RUT200 can also be used for this purpose.

Added value of the solution

Integrating TELTONIKA hardware offers clear advantages to Karl Barth AG and its agricultural customers.

  1. Significantly fewer trips
Remote access via VPN and SMS saves valuable time and reduces costs.
  2. Higher system availability
Real-time notifications via email or SMS allow for prompt responses to malfunctions.
  3. Uniform management
All routers are centrally preconfigured and administered.
  4. The system can be operated on any device
The drying control system is accessible at any time, whether via PC, tablet or smartphone.
  5. Future-proof scalability
As businesses grow, new boxes or entire locations can easily be connected.
