Proper storage of medications is of critical importance in medical facilities. To ensure their efficacy and safety, the temperature and humidity must remain within defined limits at all times. Manual checks are time-consuming and cannot provide complete assurance, which is why automated, reliable monitoring solutions are becoming increasingly important.
About Wiegand AG
Wiegand AG is a well-established Swiss company specialising in medication management and ward logistics. Since 1975, it has developed high-quality solutions ranging from MediDispensers to ward furniture and digital inventory management systems. These products are developed in Bülach and optimised in close collaboration with healthcare professionals. ISO 9001 certification by SQS highlights the company’s commitment to high-quality standards and structured processes. In order to further improve its own systems, Wiegand sought a reliable way to continuously monitor the environmental conditions inside its medication cabinets.
Consulting, Evaluation, and Targeted Implementation

INOVIS adopted a holistic approach to this project. Working alongside Wiegand, we analysed the requirements in detail, covering everything from measurement accuracy and indoor wireless coverage to long-term operational reliability.
Thanks to our close collaboration with INOVIS medical, our partner company, we have direct access to the medical market, as well as in-depth, industry-specific knowledge. This knowledge was specifically incorporated into the development of the solution.
Based on this analysis, we defined and tested a LoRaWAN-based solution under real-world conditions. The goal was to create a combination of sensor technology and connectivity that would integrate seamlessly into the existing infrastructure while reliably and continuously delivering data.
Following a successful testing phase, the solution was implemented in ongoing operations.
Reliable Technology in Action
The solution’s core component is the Milesight EM320-TH, which is installed directly inside medicine cabinets. It accurately measures temperature and humidity, transmitting the data wirelessly via LoRaWAN. Thanks to its IP67-certified housing, the sensor can be relied upon to operate even under demanding conditions and requires minimal maintenance.


The Milesight UG65 ensures stable, comprehensive data transmission. This robust 8-channel gateway has a long range of up to 15 km with a clear line of sight, and approximately 2 km in urban environments. This makes it ideal for smart building applications, ensuring reliable connectivity for all sensors within the infrastructure.

By integrating this solution, Wiegand is able to provide its customers with additional support for storing medication. Environmental conditions are continuously monitored, enabling immediate detection of any deviations – saving institutions valuable resources and enhancing safety.
Manual effort is reduced and complete traceability of all relevant data is ensured. This solution thus improves safety in day-to-day operations and builds trust in the systems.
